Teaching the Bible In Schools (revised)

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 3:15)

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou rises (Deuteronomy 6:7)

From a child Timothy knew the holy scriptures. Which we know was the Hebrew Bible since the New Testament had not been written yet. Who taught Timothy? Not a pagan public school teacher. In first century Israel the Hebrew boys attended school to the age of thirteen to study the Torah. This was a law then that they had to attend school to learn the Torah. God never left it up to pagan school teachers to teach his word to anyone.  The parents and religious teachers of the law did it. Not heathen pagans who had no regard for God. He commanded the parents to diligently teach their children about him. The Deuteronomy passage is clear that the we are to teach our children the word of God not expect pagan heathen  schools to do it.

The schools today teach evolution this is their thing to do. An entire generation has already been taught there is no God: the very generation that teaches now there is no God. That we evolved added to that. Now this crazy idea that is being promoted by the religious right; people like Chuck Norris and David Barton to teach the Bible in schools is really saying to place the Bible alongside Darwin, Shakespeare, Homer,  and the Greek philosophers, etc. for literature.

But the Bible is the word of God. It is not to be read as any book which is what the schools will do with it. Why would an atheist teacher teach the Bible as the word of God? It will be taught as the Bible as literature. It is not just literature it is the written word of God.

The commandment in Deuteronomy 6 uses the adverb diligently when commanding us how to teach the word of God to our children. It must be taught diligently. Not as the Bible as literature.

But maybe it is easier to leave it to the schools rather than teach our children what Thus says the Lord. This is how church and state unite which was never the teaching of God. Jesus also never taught that the state is to teach the word of God to anyone.  Sadly I have browsed books in bookstores and have seen books containing parts of the Bible. It is exactly what God commanded the human race not to do; to add or take away from his word.

Should the Bible be used as a textbook in schools? It seems it would then be considered just any other book to read or study.  Give it a few years in the hands of a generation of kids who think the Bible is an outdated book written centuries ago by ignorant goat herders.

It would be seen as required reading perhaps? Just another book with a rumor attached to it perhaps. The rumor being that once it was considered to be the word of God.

I can see it now the student carrying it their backpack a revised revised revised copy of the Bible along with Catcher in the Rye. I can see it now the student sitting on the college campus grass with the Bible lying on the ground along with books of fiction. I can see it now the money-man coming to college to buy back reusable textbooks and he buys the Bible for a few dollars. I can see it now the Bible tossed in the trash bin along with other old worn out books. I can see it now on a library shelf under fiction.

It is easy to push this idea to the public with commercials such as where Chuck Norris and his wife stand together and promote this idea.

The Bible is to be taught at home and in the churches. If the children were taught it at home by their parents, the idea to  teach it at school would probably have never been introduced. We parents are to teach it to our children. Nowhere does it say the school teacher is to do this.

There was a time and it still happens in places where sinners were saved from their sins. Now it is the right so out there with their propaganda that those who know nothing of the Bible think that God is all about government when he is nothing of the sort.

As Mary at Jesus’ tomb said, when Jesus whom she thought was the gardener asked her why she was weeping, “They have taken away my Lord and I do not know where they have laid him.”

The Religious Right (of which I do not adhere to) accuse the Left (of which I do not adhere to) that it is the other group who have no regard for God. But isn’t it really they who have no regard for God who want to take the Bible out of the home and church and put it in government?

People need to be saved. Jesus died to save the lost sinner. But the sinner is not seen as a sinner anymore but as a voter. Vote for those on the right and you will be saved and get to heaven. Don’t vote for the Religious Right and go to hell.

The church has nothing to do with the state. How could the religious right not see the damage they are doing? Because it is easier to cast a vote than spend time in prayer for the lost sinners of the world.

God said his word will not return to him void. Whoever reads it, though they realize it or not, will be eating the bread of life.

God is the Keeper and Preserver of his Word and what he allows to be done in this situation will somehow bring him glory.
