America is a Nation of Laws As Are All Civilized Nations

“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.”(Romans 13: 1-7)

ALL civilized nations have within their hearts the laws of God. All civilized nations live by laws and subject to those laws or else suffer the punishment those laws inflict on the law-breaker. Japan has laws and so does China and Australia. Spain and Chile. Russia and Germany, etc.. These laws came from God.

There is no other place they could have come from. As Paul said in this passage...there is no power but of God. And the powers that be are ordained of God. Whether you are Chinese or Japanese or Russian or Spanish or Scottish or whatever, you have two options to choose from: good or evil.

As we travel through life one can only do one of two things; good or evil. Right or wrong. Obey God or disobey God. America is not special whereas it alone has the law of God. ALL nations have his laws only called by a different name. Ours is the Constitution while theirs is called something else. But it is all what came down from God at Sinai to Israel.

Good or Evil. Right or Wrong.

Romans 13 tells us to obey laws because frankly there are no other laws to obey or disobey but the laws of God. Whether it is wicked Caesar making and enforcing them or preaching Billy Graham. America has laws; such as a law that makes you buy car insurance or else. Laws that serve to keep order in a nation of sinners. Laws such as you cannot marry one person if you are married to another. Laws such as if you run that red light you will be fined for it. Speed down the road and get a ticket. Sinners need guidance. We really do not know anything. We did not come with a built in self-starter to learn anything. We must be taught. So God gave us laws.

I go to the store to buy a food item. I try something new. I must read instructions on how to prepare it. I do not know; I must be told. God must tell us step by step what to do or we do not know. Though some claim they do know what to do. No one knows what to do; the Lord God of Israel had to tell us all.

Checks and balances because every American; every human being is suspect. We must have laws.

We must obey laws and submit to them because It is as the apostle Paul says there is no power but of God. So it follows that God’s  laws are the only ones that we can submit to. Or not submit to.

Christianity eliminates these laws if the heart is washed in the blood of Jesus. Because the new heart in Christ obeys the law because he wants to not because he has to. But without laws man is a savage beast with no      guidance. I speak of the laws God wrote on hearts.

The apostle Paul is saying one still must stop at a red light even if he is a Christian. God’s laws govern the universe and all within it. One cannot get away from the laws of God. No matter what country you live in God’s laws are there written in hearts. And many of these laws are written on books to keep order among the masses.

If one is a Christian he doesn’t need a law restraining him. Forcing him and warning him threatening him with a “or else”.

So why did Paul instruct the Romans as he did in these passages?

Because the powers that be are not, as some think, flesh and blood people. The powers that be are conscience; the laws that God gave the world. The laws that simply exist because God said so. God speaks and it is law.

The powers that be can be seen here: A man robs a bank. He immediately goes to combat against the powers that be.

He runs and hides in the woods or on a mountain carrying the money he stole.  He hides in a cave. He sweats and worries because the powers that be are not going to be attacked and defeated. We can fight God; we just won’t win the fight.

No one knows he is the robber. No one knows his name. No one but he and God know that he Mr So and So is the thief. The powers that be tell this rebel he will not get away with it. The powers that be tell him there is no place for you to hide. The powers that be tell him he is going to jail if he they catch him. The powers that be call him fool. The powers that be tell him you are hiding because you did wrong. They will catch you there is no place to hide. He begins to sweat and worry.  he experiences fear and anxiety. He cannot attack the powers that be and win. These are the laws of God written on conscience. If anyone appears to not possess a conscience, such as one like Ted Bundy and the like, than he is a reprobate whom God turned over (gave up on) because of his sin and evil.

Keep sinning and God will most certainly turn you over to a mind that doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong; good and evil.

Jesus said fall on him and be broken. If he falls on you he will grind you to powder.

And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. (Matthew 21:44)

Paul the apostle told the Romans to submit to laws since there is no law but God’s anyway. America alone does not have the law of God.

All civilized people in all lands founded their nations on the principles of right and wrong; good or evil. Do good and receive reward which reward is found in doing good. Do evil and suffer and die.

Thank God for his universal laws of right and wrong, sowing and reaping: which laws operate all over the world in perfect flawless order.
