Agnostics Debate Apologists and Usually Win the Debate

Children in Jerusalem.

I listen sometimes to debates between atheists and believers. I just listened to one last night between an agnostic and a well-known apologist. I would say the agnostic won the debate simply because it was the same old thing the apologist presented. That evil exists because it is somehow good for us in some way.

Skeptics want answers they will never receive from their intellect. Or from anyone’s else’s. The answer to evil in the world is Christ. There is no other answer. It is okay to debate we can learn much. Of course apologists know this. But to try to explain away all the evil by saying “God gave us free will” is nonsense.

No sane parent would place two glasses before her beloved child and say to the child..”Okay here is a glass of orange juice and a glass of orange juice with rat poison. I give you free will to choose which one you want.”

We are not kinder than God and God did not do what he is accused of by many. He did not place two glasses of orange juice before the human race: one mixed with rat poison. And say Dear human race that I love…now you CHOOSE which one you want. That is evil and God did not do this.

I read where one apologist tried to justify evil’s existence in the world by citing a case of a mother whose child died. But after so-called counsel she finally realized she would have the child again just for the love the child brought her. I would not want her for a mother.

What? She would do it again if she could? No mother in her right mind would say “Yes I am grieving my child who has died. But if I could do it all over again for the love this child brought me than it was worth it.”

That would be the depths of selfishness and empty of love. No mother would “do it all again” knowing her child would die. Just so the mother could experience love it was okay for evil to exist which evil caused the child’s death? This is what the apologist was implying.

The mother in this case was thinking only of herself and not of the child who died. I wonder if she would have this attitude if it was she who died? This so-called reasoning is not from God but from Satan.

No mother would do such a thing. A decent mother would deny herself and not bring a child into the world knowing he would die so the mother could experience love.

This is why the Lord went to the cross to die to destroy the works of the devil not justify them. Evil is bad, there is no good in it; it has to go. Yes God can work all things together for our good. But he still came to destroy the works of the devil.

1 John 3:8 (KJV) He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

This God gave us free will reason is the worst of all presentations to explain why evil exists. God would never give us free will to disobey him. He commanded us to obey him.

Earthquakes happen some apologists say because of tectonic plates. Really? Skeptics want to know why the tectonic plates are even there to start with. It is not tectonic plates it is SIN that is the problem.

Is there an elephant on the floor? With some apologists there seems to be.

God and Darkness and Light

Absolute darkness

Image via Wikipedia

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. (Genesis 1)

Not at the beginning but In the beginning God created. He created the heaven and the earth. Not he created the heaven and the earth and other planets.  No that is not what it says. And now we know there are numberless galaxies out there  each owning billions perhaps trillions of planets; but only one planet is named by name when God in the beginning created. The one we live on which is earth. Sounds like earth is singled out because all other planets are considered the heaven.

The earth had no form and it was void after he created it. Empty. This is what God created: the earth empty and without form. Darkness was upon the face of the deep. The darkness is not underneath the face of the deep, but only on its face. (There is a reason for all this. God is not a foolish God he is not a wasteful God. Anyone who sees what he made should know this. Sadly many do not. It is easier to project onto God their own feelings. They blame him instead of simply taking him at his word.)

So far God has said nothing.

Then the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. We cannot assume anything here such as the face of the waters is the face of the deep.

I don’t know and neither does anyone else. No one but God was there.

Then His Spirit moved on the face of the deep.

Notice there is no light. None. He created darkness? It doesn’t say that: it says he created the heaven and the earth and the earth not the heaven was without form and void and DARKNESS was upon the face of the deep.

But we can know that he did make the darkness by this verse:

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:3) Darkness would be included in these “all things” because darkness is a thing.

Look skyward during the day and see there our only source of light: the sun.

God did not create the sun….yet.

Note: Darkness  is not a ball of gas in the sky shedding darkness over the world. Darkness permeates everywhere: it doesn’t come to us from a certain source as light comes to us from the sun and moon and stars. I t is simply here it is there. Darkness is as natural as it is dominant.

However the sun is a ball of gas in the sky shedding light over all the world. Darkness is not what the sun is. When the sun goes down in the west we are then in total darkness. We switch on our Edison invention to have light to light our dark world.

It is dark by nature it is dark by divine decree. Where the sun is not shining there is darkness. We do not plug in a lamp in a room to make it dark. We plug in a lamp to tap into light so we can see, so we can feel better, so we can live better. Light is what we need. If someone says he doesn’t mind to live in darkness he is either blind or demented. Light is what we prefer to darkness.

Seven of the most beautiful words in existence which are recorded in the Bible are And God said let there be light.

As soon as he said these words there came into existence what he said. And there was light and God saw that the light was good. So far here God created and the Spirit of God moved. Then he spoke. He said and what he said came into existence. So God did not create the sun he spoke it into existence. That is what it says: he said let there be light. His command was immediately obeyed.

People blame God for evil in the world, for all that men do in the darkness they blame God. For all nature’s disasters they blame God. For man’s inhumanity to man they blame God. For all the darkness in men’s hearts and souls they blame God. They accuse him that he could have made a better world and he did not. Why? He has the power to do it so why did he create evil. Why does he allow suffering and death in a world he claims to love?

They lose their faith because God does not think as they think. They arrogantly think they could have done a better job of creating a world. They would get rid of evil. In fact they maintain they would not have created a world with evil in the first place.

So what are they saying in all their complaints and accusations? They are basically saying they are kinder than God, and wiser, and more powerful in their thinking. They place themselves above God in their intellect. They imply they are better than he. But we cannot come to God with our so-called intellect. Some say God only responds to faith. Hold it! Adam and Eve had no faith when they blatantly disobeyed God. It was God who initiated the reconciliation.. It was God who promised them a Redeemer. It was God who made them clothes to wear when they became ashamed of themselves.

Darkness was before light. Darkness was and light came into existence because GOD SAID. It is of eternal importance what God says. His word is what it is all about. We can speak and nothing happens. We can say the truth or lie and nothing happens. Not so with God when he speaks he can and does call into existence things; even things that were not as though they were.

….and calleth those things which be not as though they were.  (Romans 4:17)

There is a connection of  natural and spiritual darkness: that permeates our existence on earth; with the  spoke into existence light to Jesus Christ, and the cross on which he died.

People question God and accuse and slander him. You tube is full of accusing God videos. Websites where he is utterly hated and slandered.

But something happened at the Cross which answers and explains. It is the only answer that exists. Why do we know Jesus existed? Because history records he was born. He was the Word made flesh. Not as in….he suddenly was there in Israel. No there is more to it than that. A long history that began before the foundation of the world. God already knew what he would do before In the beginning.

Adam and Eve Stupid? Part 1

Genesis 2:9, 17  Genesis 3:3, 11, 17, 22:

“And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. . . . But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. ” (Genesis 2:8-9, 17) “But of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. . .

…and we know they did not do what God said. They did not exercise as some call free will. They outrageously disobeyed a clear commandment. How and why their sin affected the entire human race is for another blog.

Why would they do this? They knew not to do it but they did it anyway. God said no and they said yes we can. Would that not be stupidity? Were Adam and Eve stupid?

Everything God made was good when he made it. He saw that it was good is what is said about his creation. How could something that was created good (Adam and Eve)  do something evil?

I do not believe there is such a thing as free will. I believe one either obeys God or disobeys God. One could argue that that is free will the ability (if you could call it ability) to choose to do good or evil.

Who in their right mind would choose to do evil? Who? If one is in his right mind he will not choose to do evil. Yes it really is about intelligence.  But God did not create stupid people. Man’s stupidity comes from man’s disobedience to God. Sin destroys whatever it touches.

The Bible says nothing about God giving them a choice. He told them not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

It was not as some call it free will. He said You shall not; not You decide.

God: “Now that I created you in my image I now give to you free will. This means that you are free to choose to do whatever you want to do. You are free to choose to obey me or disobey me. It is up to you. The tree in the midst of the garden that will kill you if you eat of it is there for you to take from if you choose to do so.”

What God really said is:

“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it:”

Big difference. They did not get a choice. They were given a command. They did not choose. They disobeyed. If it had been that they were given a choice than God could not hold man responsible for his sins. We could argue our case to him that he did leave it up to us and we chose to not do what he said.

Man’s disobedience is why today sin has so much power in the world. It is all about choosing what is “right” for you instead of obeying God. And in choosing; man always disobeys and suffers the results of sin which is death.

Death is not just ceasing to breathe. Death is to be without God which is worse than physical death. It is to be without defense in a world that is given over to disobedience. To be without God is to sin. Weren’t Adam and Eve with God? Yes as long as they did what he said. But they did not do what he said.

Many Christians are called stupid by atheists. I see it all the time. Atheists call them fundies with no evidence a brain is present. Because of the stupid things they say.

God is always in order and so should be his followers. Arguing with atheists is never the will of God for Christians. We come to God by faith in his Son “not with enticing words of man’s wisdom” as Paul called it. God said the wisdom of man is foolishness to him. Arguing cannot save atheists the blood of Jesus can. I have talked to atheists but try not to engage them. It is pointless because I know only God can change a heart.

So why did Adam and Eve do something so stupid as in disobeying God? I personally understand that disobedience is stupidity.  Why do so many things take place on earth that are just plain stupid? It is called sin and it is from disobedience to God.

Look at what they did to Jesus. Here is a man healing their sick people. He is raising their dead. He makes food appear out of nowhere to feed thousands of hungry people.

And they kill him. Stupid. Someone said that most people are stupid. Masses exist in stupidity. Is this true?

IE: Mom places two cups on the table before her child. One cup is filled with arsenic poison. The other with orange juice. She then says to her child, Now choose which one you want to drink. It is up to you she smiles and says..while not even explaining the danger of drinking the poison..or Dad divides the backyard into two sections. In one section of the divided yard is a rattlesnake and in the other is a swing-set. He tells his child  Now choose which yard you want to play in. Have fun.

That is not what God did. Yet this is what God is accused of doing.

Who is stupid? the ones that do what God says or the ones who do not? The Bible proves what stupid is.

Atheist Held Captive By Malicious Stranger

Chapter ONE (1) in a continuing series of mysterious happenings in the universe…to atheists.

BREAKING NEWS! Atheist abducted by malicious stranger to be tortured and treated well at the same time..

Hmmm….what a strange thing indeed..

Anytime BC and AD: An angry atheist claimed today that he had been abducted and held captive by a non-existent stranger. He reported to the police that he was kept against his will for a week in a remote mountain cabin.

He said the stranger had confused him to the point where he didn’t know if he was being held captive to be killed or regarded as a guest to be wined and dined. He appeared quite confused when he was walked into the police department. He appeared in excellent health, though a little shaken and confused.

He said he was walking down the street when a truck pulled up. He said the driver of the truck grabbed him, tied him up, then dragged him and threw him in the back. He then said he was taken out of town to an unknown location where he was untied and placed in a large beautiful cabin.

He said the cabin was expensively furnished.  Breathtakingly beautiful location and the cabin was state of the art made.

He also said he dined each day as would a king. He basically said he had no problem except for hearing the screams of his abductor’s victims. He said he was living the good life there if not for the screams of those being tortured and killed before him.

During his week of captivity the atheist claimed his abductor brutally murdered innocent captives, which he discovered were chained in another part of the cabin fearfully wondering their fate.

He said that as he dined on fillet Mignon at a mahogany table drinking the finest wine attended by servants who waited on him hand and foot to make sure he was satisfied with the service he was receiving, he would hear the screams of the tortured dying as their captor without mercy murdered them in various way using different methods to insure they suffered excruciating pain before they died suffering unbelievable agony and shame.

He reported that all the poor innocent victims were  stripped naked. His shock and horror to see this cannot be expressed in any known language.

The atheist said he was absolutely shocked and outraged to the point of where he used profanity to convey to his captor his disapproval of what he was seeing. He said his captor just laughed. He insisted that his abductor would mercilessly murder others while treating him very well. It made no sense.

He said at one point during his week of captivity while he happened one day to be watching a wide-screen television (His abductor had given him charge of the remote) he heard loud grievous screams coming from outside. He ran to see what was the matter.

To his great horror his captor had tied several abductees to a tree and was whipping them with a leather whip. Others were lying on the ground slowly dying of starvation and disease. His captor did not care if they died. He seemed to find pleasure in making it happen.

Others were hanging from trees by their neck dead from suffocation.

As the atheist walked back inside to resume what he was doing which was watching an old remake of his favorite movie, his abductor asked him if he wanted the masseuse to give him his daily massage. Of course he said yes to his daily massage.

After this he said he took an hour nap alone to rest. Than later exercised on the portable gym for a while before he resumed his leisurely life of captivity.

The atheist said he was shocked and horrified that his abductor could do such things to all those innocent people. Yet treated him fabulously.

He was interviewed:

“Why do you think your abductor tortured and killed all these innocent people while treating you well?” he was asked.

“I have no idea!  But I hate this non-existent person, this imaginary sadist who held me captive for a week for no reason.”

But can you explain to the world please why were you treated well and the others were brutally murdered?”

“I have no clue!” the angry atheist replied.

“Why did this imaginary monster/good guy let you go? You must understand why he would murder others while treating you good? You were there!”

“That’s just it! Why he treated me exquisitely providing everything I needed to be happy and killing those poor innocent victims is above my pay-grade to understand. No wait! I do understand. He is insane and vicious and capricious, vindictive, cruel,  evil and stupid! I hate that moronic non-existent entity!”

“But are you thankful you were spared? How did you escape? What did you learn from this experience if anything?”

I learned that my abductor is mean and capricious. He is evil he is without mercy. He is without doubt stupid. He never explained himself and I could not figure out why he was nice to me and evil to them. One day he said to me I was free to go with his blessings. Of course I walked out the door and went home quite relieved and happy to be free. Shocking. I think he is schizophrenic. He is also a math genius and a great artist. When he wasn’t killing innocent people he was designing magnificent works of art and solving impossible problems. He also created things I really admire, however he is insane.”

“How do you feel about him really?”

The atheist said, “This is my opinion the way I see it. My abductor does not exist and if he does exist, though I have no proof that he does, he is insane and deserves to die! By the way I am not thankful he spared me. I could have done it myself eventually. The facts is that I hate this insane entity IF he exists! He is vindictive and jealous and arrogant and selfish and has no regard for human life.”

My question: does this atheist’s report make any sense? Any sense at all?
