God and Darkness and Light

Absolute darkness

Image via Wikipedia

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. (Genesis 1)

Not at the beginning but In the beginning God created. He created the heaven and the earth. Not he created the heaven and the earth and other planets.  No that is not what it says. And now we know there are numberless galaxies out there  each owning billions perhaps trillions of planets; but only one planet is named by name when God in the beginning created. The one we live on which is earth. Sounds like earth is singled out because all other planets are considered the heaven.

The earth had no form and it was void after he created it. Empty. This is what God created: the earth empty and without form. Darkness was upon the face of the deep. The darkness is not underneath the face of the deep, but only on its face. (There is a reason for all this. God is not a foolish God he is not a wasteful God. Anyone who sees what he made should know this. Sadly many do not. It is easier to project onto God their own feelings. They blame him instead of simply taking him at his word.)

So far God has said nothing.

Then the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. We cannot assume anything here such as the face of the waters is the face of the deep.

I don’t know and neither does anyone else. No one but God was there.

Then His Spirit moved on the face of the deep.

Notice there is no light. None. He created darkness? It doesn’t say that: it says he created the heaven and the earth and the earth not the heaven was without form and void and DARKNESS was upon the face of the deep.

But we can know that he did make the darkness by this verse:

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:3) Darkness would be included in these “all things” because darkness is a thing.

Look skyward during the day and see there our only source of light: the sun.

God did not create the sun….yet.

Note: Darkness  is not a ball of gas in the sky shedding darkness over the world. Darkness permeates everywhere: it doesn’t come to us from a certain source as light comes to us from the sun and moon and stars. I t is simply here it is there. Darkness is as natural as it is dominant.

However the sun is a ball of gas in the sky shedding light over all the world. Darkness is not what the sun is. When the sun goes down in the west we are then in total darkness. We switch on our Edison invention to have light to light our dark world.

It is dark by nature it is dark by divine decree. Where the sun is not shining there is darkness. We do not plug in a lamp in a room to make it dark. We plug in a lamp to tap into light so we can see, so we can feel better, so we can live better. Light is what we need. If someone says he doesn’t mind to live in darkness he is either blind or demented. Light is what we prefer to darkness.

Seven of the most beautiful words in existence which are recorded in the Bible are And God said let there be light.

As soon as he said these words there came into existence what he said. And there was light and God saw that the light was good. So far here God created and the Spirit of God moved. Then he spoke. He said and what he said came into existence. So God did not create the sun he spoke it into existence. That is what it says: he said let there be light. His command was immediately obeyed.

People blame God for evil in the world, for all that men do in the darkness they blame God. For all nature’s disasters they blame God. For man’s inhumanity to man they blame God. For all the darkness in men’s hearts and souls they blame God. They accuse him that he could have made a better world and he did not. Why? He has the power to do it so why did he create evil. Why does he allow suffering and death in a world he claims to love?

They lose their faith because God does not think as they think. They arrogantly think they could have done a better job of creating a world. They would get rid of evil. In fact they maintain they would not have created a world with evil in the first place.

So what are they saying in all their complaints and accusations? They are basically saying they are kinder than God, and wiser, and more powerful in their thinking. They place themselves above God in their intellect. They imply they are better than he. But we cannot come to God with our so-called intellect. Some say God only responds to faith. Hold it! Adam and Eve had no faith when they blatantly disobeyed God. It was God who initiated the reconciliation.. It was God who promised them a Redeemer. It was God who made them clothes to wear when they became ashamed of themselves.

Darkness was before light. Darkness was and light came into existence because GOD SAID. It is of eternal importance what God says. His word is what it is all about. We can speak and nothing happens. We can say the truth or lie and nothing happens. Not so with God when he speaks he can and does call into existence things; even things that were not as though they were.

….and calleth those things which be not as though they were.  (Romans 4:17)

There is a connection of  natural and spiritual darkness: that permeates our existence on earth; with the  spoke into existence light to Jesus Christ, and the cross on which he died.

People question God and accuse and slander him. You tube is full of accusing God videos. Websites where he is utterly hated and slandered.

But something happened at the Cross which answers and explains. It is the only answer that exists. Why do we know Jesus existed? Because history records he was born. He was the Word made flesh. Not as in….he suddenly was there in Israel. No there is more to it than that. A long history that began before the foundation of the world. God already knew what he would do before In the beginning.

Atheist (9)

Dark matter pie

Image via Wikipedia

Theist: I can’t believe you were nice enough to continue our discourse on God. Would you like a cup of coffee or tea?

Atheist: Thanks I don’t mind if I have a coffee.  My premise is there is no God. No God only reality.

Theist: Paul the apostle says you suppress the truth in unrighteousness. Makes sense to me. He is saying that the truth is there but you push it down so far you cannot see it anymore.

Atheist: I don’t care what Paul said. I see no evidence for God and I do not suppress the truth in unrighteousness. There is no such thing as unrighteousness. I admit there is right and wrong but to call wrong unrighteousness is absurd. It is amazing that anyone could believe the Bible to be what God said to the world. It seems he could have picked more intelligent people to get his word here. Have you ever examined their style of writing? And it came to pass than they repeat the same thing over for no reason.

Theist: Well it has been a long journey hasn’t it from wild hairy grunting killing smelly beast to what you are now a living man who thinks civilly. Am I right? Also how does it feel to know your ancestors were beastly cannibals and sexual perverts?

Atheist: So were yours. But to answer your question I see it as simply the way it is. Man was once a beast. Where have you been hiding? The evidence is there that we evolved.

Theist: God calls them sinners. Pagans heathens and idolaters. He does also say that some are to be taken as brute beasts and destroyed. Not all are destined to go to heaven.

Atheist: See you said it yourself that there are some who are destined for salvation and some are destined to burn in hell. How unfair is that? What kind of God makes people only to destroy them? Why wasn’t he able to make a perfect race where none had to be destroyed?

Theist: Ah…we are back to you are wiser and kinder than God argument. Since you claim to be so smart explain why there is darkness?

Atheist: It just happened for no apparent reason. It was part of the big bang.

Theist: I understand you see it that way. But what is darkness? What is dark matter? Why does darkness exist? The mind is the only place where we get answers you say? Than think of an answer and tell me why there is darkness?

Atheist: It is the opposite of light.

Theist: Wrong answer. It is not the opposite of light. Nothing is the opposite of God and he is light. The sun is an artificial light so to speak, since he is the true Light. God is one and he is self-existent. Nothing he created can be in opposition to him and he created all things including darkness. In the beginning he saw that all he made was good not goo. It was man that sinned in opposition to what he commanded them. But I refer to literal darkness. Have you ever traveled down a long dark highway at night from one town to the next than for one instant switch off your car headlights?

Atheist: As a matter of fact I did do that once when driving from California to Arizona. It was pitch dark. No light no moon could be seen. It was blackness.

Theist: What is that?

Atheist: It is darkness?

Theist: Yes we know that, but what is it?  What is it made of? Does it have properties? If God turned off the sun moon and stars there would be nothing but blackness. In other words by nature everything is black and dark. There is no light. None. Now say all the electric power went out on earth also. There were no candles no flashlights and no matches. What would that be?

Atheist: Well hello? It would be gross darkness nothing but pure blackness.

Theist: Why blackness? Why not whiteness or pinkness or blueness?

Atheist: I don’t understand the question. I am sure it would be blackness.

Theist: But why black and not white or green? Say it remained that way for a year, would the human race survive it?

Atheist: I think this could only be answered if it was actually experienced. It would be black because that is what darkness is; blackness.

Theist: I read once of an experiment scientists did; they placed a man in a pitch black room for a week. After a week they placed a small candle in there. The man reported that he was depressed and sad. He said he was lonely and that even fear tried to attack his mind with scary imagination. But when he saw the candle he felt better. The light and warmth of the candle somehow revived him. Why do you think this was that the candle helped him?

Atheist: For obvious reasons; he could not adapt to the darkness. So there is no way the human race could exist one year in pitch darkness.

Theist: But you insist that man is able to adapt? Please explain why he can adapt to one thing and not another.

Atheist: it just happened that way. Evolution just happened it did not come with a book.

Theist: Good news the human race was given a Book by God.

Atheist: If man had to live in pitch darkness he could not survive. It would kill him. We need light! We need warmth. Evolution made us that way.

Theist: Oh? And why then did evolution evolve darkness? Why would it big bang something that is detrimental to our survival? Why did evolution evolve what is bad for us if it is indeed bad for us? I say man can endure if God is with him. Because God is light and warmth and love. The very things we desperately need to live. But your magic time machine never got rid of the darkness even after billions of years. How mean is that?

Atheist: I said we evolved into humans not into super beings. There are limitations. Darkness is not always bad for us. We sleep in it and as we sleep our body and mind for some reason renews itself. We become unconscious and we rest.

Theist: Please explain how we evolve improving as we go but die anyway?  How is that improvement. Did you know that depression is darkness? It is totally negative. How did evolution not rid the world of depression and disease? Why did it not correct all these problems since it had billions of years to do it. That is a lot of time and still evolution gets it wrong.

Atheist: I will answer your questions but you tell me what darkness is. You tell me what is dark matter if you know.

Pilate’s Question; What is Truth?

Christ before Pilate, Mihály Munkácsy, 1881

Image via Wikipedia

Pilate the governor of Judea was looking at Truth personified  when he looked at Jesus of Nazareth and asked the question What is truth?

Pilate did not recognize truth. He is like the rest of his fellow humans that do not, cannot, will not see truth for what it is.  When it does not comply with their thoughts and feelings it cannot be truth. Jesus said that he himself was the TRUTH.

Many people see themselves as truth not anything else. What is truth? Truth is what GOD SAID. It is that simple. But how do we know what God said? The Torah is the law of God.

God isn’t ever going to say that green is red. But if he did, than green would be red. It is what  GOD SAID that determines everything to be what it is.

Could one conclude just by speculation, or even deep thought that any feeling, or experience is real or good? Or is it evil or is it a delusion? Perhaps it is a hallucination? What? How do we determine what is from God when there is so much delusion in the world?

Firstly, Satan is the master of delusion and deception. He is the being of iniquity and darkness, the wicked evil savage of hate and murder.  He walks  in lies. He operates in delusion, in deceit and incredible dark light.  As Jesus said there can be light that is darkness.

If therefore the light that is in you be darkness, how great is that darkness! (Matthew 6:23)

When two masters are served (good and evil both) the evil master will prevail because the good Master Jesus will not compromise with  evil. Your light will be turned into darkness. How great is that darkness?  So great you think it is light. That is dark!

This is deception; this is what the enemy does as he works his evil in the hearts of those who refuse to simply believe God. When Jesus said to believe him he didn’t mean you need a degree in theology. He didn’t mean you need to pray until there are lumps on your knees. He didn’t say you have to graduate at the top of your class.  Just go with what he said.

He did not come to threaten or judge he came to reveal laws that are in place. Universal laws his Father set into motion. That if you transgress those laws you will perish. Why? Because they are immutable laws.

Laws such as the law of gravity, the laws of thermodynamics, the laws of marriage, and of faith, of sin, or love….laws laws laws…all set into motion by the great Creator.

Satan is the master magician who can actually present in full color before you an illusion by presenting to you evil disguised as goodness.  He comes as an angel of light to deceive those who refuse the light. Jesus said men loved darkness rather than light, that they would not come to the light lest their deeds be reproved.

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (John 3:19)

Condemnation is not anything to play around with.

But fear of shame and reproach keeps many a sinner from the altar of repentance. When that is why the altar is there; to receive the sinner.

Murderers and adulterers and homosexuals all feel what they are doing.

Karla Faye Tucker the woman who axed two people to death in Texas and died by lethal injection for it, said she had orgasms while she slashed her victims to death with an axe. She felt what she was doing as pleasure though what she was doing was evil. Satan the master deceiver was at work to destroy her and her victims.

This is undeniable evidence that evil brings pleasure even as the Bible says. The Bible says there is pleasure in sin for a season.

“…..to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; (Hebrews 11:25)

Homosexuals say it feels right so they think their perversion is right.  They say they need to get “married” because of their rights and feelings.

On and on the claims go. Ted Bundy was driven to kill; he could not stop himself so he stalked and killed with nary a tear of remorse. He lived by his feelings. Homes torn to pieces by adulterers and fornicators all because they live by their feelings instead of by laws. Feelings feelings and more feelings. The world is almost destroyed because of humans being guided by their feelings instead of by what GOD SAID.

The man who had sex with a stallion in Washington state than died after the stallion perforated the man’s inner organs.  He bled to death. Why? Because the man lived by his feelings. He thought to have sex with a horse and paid for it with his life.

If he had obeyed God’s law that said not to lie with beasts he would not have died that way. Yet God gets the blame for so much from so many.

Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it [is] confusion. (Leviticus 18:23)

Consider….

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  (Genesis 1:1)

Than what happened? Nothing happened. The Bible says next that the spirit of God moved upon the face of the deep.  (Genesis 1:1) What happened then? Nothing happened. Simply because nothing just happens there has to be a reason a cause for it. What a horrible world this would be if things just happened for no reason or cause. Scary.

Like a family going on a picnic on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. They know it might rain if that weatherman got it wrong. They know they will see different strangers at the park. They know what might take place, but they know this ; They know that no beast will suddenly arise from the ground and eat them up. This is delusion it is imagination something the Bible says not to do.

There are laws and there is delusion. People who took LSD hallucinated and saw colors and other weird  stuff. It was all delusion one of Satan’s most useful tools.

I hate [vain] thoughts: but thy law do I love. (Psalm 119:113)

Then it says in Genesis something that brought light.

And God said Let there be light and there was light. (Genesis 1:3)

Those words……GOD SAID. And there it is the reason for it all the reason for good and the reason for evil…the cause of both in the universe it is all because GOD SAID. If anything agrees with what GOD SAID all will be well with that one. If one resists what GOD SAID than he will die.

LAWS. Everything that proceeds from the mouth of God is LAW. Not idle chatter, not suggestions awaiting our approval. Not maybes, or could be. Not conjectures or guesses.

If we only understand it is what GOD SAID that determines what is right what is wrong.

This is why we have the Torah it tells us  GOD SAID what is right and what is wrong.
Nothing else exists that contains its enduring truths.

Many will argue that there were before the Torah laws and rules.  I think not. That the Old Testament is not original but way before it there were laws teaching right from wrong. That is also the extent of their opposition to merely say the Torah is not original. Let them try then to prove it with documented evidence.

Don’t bring the Babylonian Code that is not sufficient to guide the world as history has proved. Don’t bring Buddha who came along 700 years before Jesus was born.

The Torah is what GOD SAID. It will remain what GOD SAID forever.

What GOD SAID is TRUTH. His laws are TRUTH.

And Jesus was the personification of those laws; what GOD SAID

Next..why obeying the Ten Commandments is right and will bring peace order and happiness.

The SUN our light? (2)

As a christian I cannot view the sun as real light. It is a created light. A light spoke into existence by God. The great light to rule the day. Natural? yes. Real? no. Christ is the true Light there is no other Light to Light men but Jesus Christ.

This true light that is God lights every man that comes into the world. That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world. (John 1:19) Yet Jesus said to beware that the light that is in us be not darkness.Take heed therefore that the light which is in you be not darkness. (Luke 11:35)

Can light be darkness? Yes because Jesus said so.  That’s right he said so. Love others and walk in the light which is God’s love. Hate others and stumble in the darkness one can feel. That darkness that is evil that is terrifying that is death.

He said if the light that is in you be darkness how great is that darkness. But if your eye be evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you be darkness, how great is that darkness! (Matthew 6:23) He referred to the spiritual darkness that will overcome the man and shroud him in great darkness. If he reaches out his hand to iniquity.

How does the light that is in us when we are born, which is God, become darkness? Transgression against the laws of God. It is called sin.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew 6:24)

They may think they can serve God and Satan the world and the flesh, but they cannot do good and evil both and expect that light to shine. It cannot be. Satan will always compromise with God but God will never compromise with Satan. If evil is done the Lord cannot be there. He cannot be where sin and darkness are. Because he is LIGHT.

Atheists think that the world would be a better place without Christians. But without the Christians there would be that darkness Jesus Christ warned of.

Christ in the Christians is the light of the world.

1 John 1:5: This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and don’t tell the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

There is a darkness without the sun. If one could imagine a world without the sun he would see a terrifying world; a world of darkness and cold. I would imagine stark fear for one could not know what is there beside him. Or behind him or waiting to meet him. It is a fact that evil is present in the universe. It is real and without mercy. Darkness invites evil. Without the sun all things would die.

Evil men do their evil deeds in the darkness. They think they can hide there.

They lurk and wait in the darkness for their prey.

When one dies he goes where the sun doesn’t shine. There is no light beyond the grave. Jesus said he is the Light of the world. The world he said, but what of the other world that exists beyond the last breath?

Whoever has not considered his last breath has not considered. He who has not carefully regarded his life beyond his last breath has not regarded the fact that death is exactly that; death. Death is not the lack of existence it is the end of earthly awareness.

The sun is not our light. Christ is the true light and without him there is no light only darkness. No world can exist without the true light.

The world would be a dark cold terrifying place of instant death without the sun. Death for all life. Life comes from God alone it cannot be created in a lab or imagined into reality. Only God can create life. He is himself LIFE.

To die without the true light which is Jesus Christ,  is without doubt the great darkness Jesus warned of.

Don’t leave this world without Christ in you the hope of glory!

Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:27)

In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness did not comprehend it.
[The light in every man shines in the darkness of man, pleading with him to forsake evil; but man in his darkness does not grasp what God is trying to explain to him.] (John 1:4-5)

The SUN our Light?

The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. It has a diameter of about 1,392,000 km, about 109 times that of Earth, and its mass (about 2×1030 kilograms, 330,000 times that of Earth) accounts for about 99.86% of the total mass of the Solar System.[10] About three quarters of the Sun’s mass consists of hydrogen, while the rest is mostly helium. Less than 2% consists of heavier elements, including oxygen, carbon, neon, iron, and others.[11] (from Wikipedia)

We all know what the SUN is, how much we need its light each day. It makes the flowers bloom. It makes the crops grow to provide us food.

Not only do we need its light but its warmth its comfort and its guiding power. Many people love the sun so much they get depressed when it hides behind a cloud. In some places where it rains alot they become depressed and long for the sun’s comforting healing rays.

I have heard some say when dark clouds hang overhead..”I wish the sun would come out.”  as if they do not have happiness if the sky is overcast. God made all seasons and all weather. We need to be thankful in them all.

In the beginning after God created the heavens and the earth as says Genesis one, the spirit of God moved upon the face of the deep, then GOD SAID let there be light.

And of course there was light after he said for light to be.

He made the greater light to rule the day. The lesser light to rule the night.

Two lights. Yes the moon gets her light from the sun so they say.

But that is not my point here.

Jesus Christ said I am the light of the world. In another place (Matthew 5:14) he said to those who heard him You are the light of the world.

Later on Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”(John 8:12)

We know he was not calling his listeners little suns or moons when he called them the light of the world. But he referred to himself as the Light of the world.

He means the light of his love and of his grace in those who believe in him. He is the light of life.

Which love and grace makes the path clear, that we may not stumble, as we follow him.

Walking in the light of his love and grace. Jesus is the true light the real light the only light. I always think of the sun as a physical light like when I turn on a lamp. I am always mindful that the sun is not the true light. Nor the light bulbs I use to light up a dark room true light.

A man lay dying of cancer in a hospital bed. He knew that he would not live. He asked to be taken to the window so he could see the sun one more time. He knew that when he passed from this world there was no sun where he was going.

Thankfully he had the light of Jesus in him when he asked to see the sun one more time. He had made his peace with God after a long and wicked life.

The sun is a physical ball of gas in the sky placed there by God when he spoke it into its existence. WE all know this.

In the grave there is no light. No sun to warm the heart and body.

How important it is to have the true light which is Christ in us. And when we die we will not pass into darkness.
